3 Big Benefits of Pilates for Your Body and Mind

Are you getting enough exercise?

You should be getting 150 minutes or more of physical activity a day, including muscle-strengthening activities. However, instead of relying on boring old gym routines, why not switch things up?

In this article, we’ll review three awesome benefits of starting a Pilates routine. So take a look! You just might find your favorite new way of working out.

1. Pilates Is a Core Workout

First, pilates provides a workout for your entire core. By making your core stronger, you’ll be providing support for your entire body.

The stronger your core is, the easier it’ll be for you to maintain good posture throughout the day. As you practice having a better posture, you’ll be able to enjoy all the benefits that come with having a strong spine! To take your core building workout to the next level, consider adding a microformer to your workout routine.

Slowly Build Core Muscles

Focus on slowly building up your core muscles, rather than rushing into things. Here are 3 of our favorite core strengthening moves:

  • Leg circles
  • Scissor kick
  • Plank leg lift

If you’re looking for a quick and easy move, start with leg circles. Simply lay on your back, with your arms at your side and palms facing towards the ground. Next, bend your left knee, and plant your left foot on the floor.

Finally, extend your right leg into the air and draw a circle. Reverse the circle, going back and forth in different directions. After about ten circles, switch legs.

2. Increase Flexibility

Second, on our list of pilates benefits, we have increased flexibility. As you begin practicing different moves, you’ll notice the purpose of pilates is to expand and lengthen your muscles. You’re essentially creating space and releasing strains and tension.

As a result, your muscles can elongate while also becoming leaner, which will improve your range of movement. Before you know it, you’ll feel more comfortable in your body than you ever have before. Instead of feeling tight and tense all the time, you’ll be able to enjoy strong but loose muscles.

3. Improve Your Mood

Last but not least, another one of the benefits of Pilates is that it can improve your mood. It’s also possible that by maintaining a regular practice, you’ll be able to find relief from anxiety and or depression.

On top of being an uplifting social event, pilates also gives your brain chemicals a chance to balance out. As you exercise, your brain will release feel-good serotonin and endorphins, which can counteract negative thought patterns.
